Patrick J. Schlanger

SchlangerPatrick J. Schlanger age 73 of Level Green passed away on Thursday, May 22 2014 in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.  Pat was born on July 5, 1940 in Braddock the son of the late John and Loretta (O’Neil) Schlanger.  Patrick was retired from US Steel Edgar Thompson Works as a supervisor and after retiring he worked for Tube City. Pat was a member of St. Regis Church, Trafford and was a veteran of the US Marines.  Pat was preceded in death by his brothers John and Leo Schlanger. Pat was a loving and devoted husband, father and pappy to his family.   Pat is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Rosemary “Rose” (Sergy) Schlanger, his children Kerrie Schlanger Constantini of Upper St. Clair and Kevin Schlanger and wife Paige of Alexandria VA; he was pappy to Allison and Nicholas Constantini who he loved, adored and cherished and his brother James Schlanger of Churchill and Jean Rosenquest of Delmont and his mother-in-law Agnes Sergy of Braddock.  Family and friends will be received from 3-9 PM on Tuesday in the John M. Anthony “Tony” Palamone

Anthony “Tony” Palamone age 88 of Penn Twp. passed away on Wednesday May 14, 2014 in the Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.  Tony was born on July 1, 1925 in Wilmerding the son of the late Pasquale and Christina (Scorza) Palamone.  Tony was a veteran of the Army serving during the Korean War.  He was retired from the Westinghouse Air Brake Co. in Wilmerding.  Tony was a very active member of the St. Regis Church in Trafford and its Knights of Columbus Council #6299.    He was a part of organizing many parish festivals and participating in numerous functions within the church.  Tony was also a very avid gardener and a member of the Bushy Run Lions Club.  Tony was preceded in death by a sister Marian Poppa.  He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Esther (DeSaia) Palamone; his children Lisa Litzinger (Kevin) of Level Green, Linda Shearer (Dale) of Hartstown PA, and Nick Palamone of Penn Twp.; his grandchildren Kevin Anthony, Nathan and Ryan Litzinger, Rebekah, Sarah and Amanda Shearer and his brother Louis Palamone (Mary) of Monroeville and their daughters Christine and Janet Palamone.  Family and friends will be received from 7-9 PM on Sunday and 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Monday in the John M. Sophie Cifranic

Sophie Cifranic of Level Green passed away on her 95th birthday Tuesday May 13, 2014 in Kelly’s Personal Care Home, Hempfield Twp.  Sophie was born on May 13, 1919 in Pittsburgh the daughter of the late Thomas Demyan and Sophia (Demus) Diduch.  Mary was a faithful member of the St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Wilmerding, served as a reader at Divine Liturgy, had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother and spent much time in prayer.   Sophie was the oldest and a charter member of the Level Green Sr. Citizens where she served as secretary for many years. Sophie was blessed with a long life, filled with many joys.  Mom may your blessing and prayers rain down upon this earth and keep us all safe and wrapped in your love.  The family would like to thank the staff of Kelly’s Personal Care Home and Medi Home Hospice for their care and concern for Sophie.   Sophie was preceded in death by her husband John Cifranic in 1988, her siblings, John & Peter Diduch, Andrew Drake, Mary Churilla, Anna Foremsky, infant Nellie Diduch, Genevieve Morse and Irene Opheim.  Sophie is survived by her children Karen Galvin (Charles) of Greensburg and Lawrence Cifranic (Mary Paula) of Manassas VA; her grandchildren Joseph Galvin, Kathleen Deffner, Lauren Cifranic and Nicholas Cifranic; great-granchildren Kristine and John Deffner; her sister Margaret Lichman of Elyria, OH and many nieces and nephews.  Family and friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Thursday in the John M. Margaret F. Newingham

Newingham age 73 of Trafford passed away in her home on Sunday, May 11, 2014.  Margaret was born on December 15, 1940 in Rankin the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Wallo) Braill.  Margaret retired from UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Oakland.  She enjoyed doing crafts and doing embroidery.  Margaret will be sadly missed by her family and friends.  Margaret was pre-deceased by one brother and two sisters.  Margaret is survived by her husband of 52 years Charles “Bud” Newingham; her children Fredrick C. Newingham of NC, Kenneth R. Newingham of Butler, Nora A. Newingham of Vandergrift, Lora M. Newingham (Dom) of Trafford; her grandchildren Amber Wright, Jessica Miller, Jonathan Newingham, Marla M. Paul D. Dawso

Paul D. Dawso age 70 of N. Huntingdon (Trafford) passed away on Friday May 9, 2014 in the UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.  Paul was born on December 18, 1943 in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Tim and Mary Elizabeth (Waite) Dawso.  Paul was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the Army.  He was a truck driver prior to retirement and he loved to fish and hunt. Paul is survived by his wife of 44 years Jacqueline Woffenden Dawso; his sister Suzanne Wittman of CA, his best friend George Williams; his cousins Ronald and Harold Asmann and Richard Morgan and a sister-in-law Janet Kline along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.  There will be no visitation or services.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Western PA Chapter, 1501 Reedsdale St. #105, Cardelllo Building,  Pittsburgh PA 15233.   The John M. Mary A. Cavicchio

Cavicchio age 90 of Trafford passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2014 in the William Penn Care Center, Penn Twp.  Mary was born on April 18, 1924 in Pittsburgh the daughter of the late Steve and Mildred (Stipenovich) Kosanovich.  Mary retired from the Penn-Trafford School District as a secretary; she was a member of the St. Regis Church in Trafford and its former Altar Rosary Society and Legion of Mary.  Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Ben Cavicchio in 2002, her brothers and sisters Sylvester and Eli Kosanovich, Martha Yourcheck, Estelle Josephic, and Angela Folino.  Mary is survived by her four sons Robert (Stephanie) of Jeannette, David (Barbara) of South Carolina, Donald (Ann-Marie) of Philadelphia and James (Terry) of Acme; her four grandchildren Jacqueline Cavicchio (Mike Erickson), Angela, Nicholas and Dominic Cavicchio and her brother Steve Kosan of N. Carl M. Niemi

Carl M. Niemi age 58, a lifelong resident of Level Green passed away quietly at the Golden Living Care Hospice Center in Monroeville on Tuesday April 22, 2014 following a yearlong battle with cancer.  He was born on January 24, 1956 the son of the late Walter and Elvira Niemi.  Carl was a 1974 graduate of the Penn-Trafford High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from California University of Pennsylvania.  He was employed by Mellon Bank and various computer firms.  He loved working around the house and fishing.  He is survived by his brother Eric Niemi (Susan) of Palm Coast FL.  Family and friends will be received on Friday from 4-9 PM in the John M. Zora (Malek) Jamnik

JamnikZora (Malek) Jamnik age 96 of Trafford passed away on Monday, April 21 2014 in the Evening Star Personal Care Home, Wilmerding.  Zora was born on May 5, 1917 in E. Pittsburgh the daughter of the late Mato and Kata (Zaluski) Malek.  Zora was retired from the Croatian Fraternal Union in Wilkins Twp. and was a member of Lodge #141 of E. Pittsburgh.  She was a member of the St. Regis Church, Trafford, and an avid bowler and loved dancing polkas with her late husband “Jam” at the Slovenian Ball Room.  Zora was preceded in death by her husband John J. “Jam” Jamnik in 2007 and her siblings Matt and John Malek, Barbara Skrbin, Anna Koshko, Mary Tomasic, Catherine Raspolic, and Charlotte Bozic.  Zora is survived by her daughters Arleen Toocheck and Norma Jean Sudina (Mike) all of Level Green; her grandchildren Barbara Toocheck, Rebecca Toocheck (Kurt Schnaubelt), Matt Toocheck, Antonio and Stephanie Sudina; her great-grandchildren Zora and Alex, Patton and Isabella Toocheck.  Family and friends will be received on Friday from 6-8 PM in the John M. Wanda (Stankiewicz) Mallik

MallikWanda (Stankiewicz) Mallik age 83 of Trafford passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014 in her home.  Wanda was born on March 17, 1931 in Trafford the daughter of the late Anthony and Julia Stankiewicz.  Wanda was a member of the St. Regis Church Trafford.  She was very generous to her friends and neighbors with her love of cooking and baking and had a great love for her garden and flowers.  Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Martin Mallik in 2005, her brother Joseph Stankiewicz, and two sisters Irene and Natalie Stankiewicz.  Wanda is survived by her son Martin A. Mallik of Trafford, her favorite brother-in-law Richard Mallik of Churchill, and four sisters-in-law Evelyn Bossar of Erie, Edna Stevens of Irwin, Sara Filvkoski and Margaret Armbrust both of Penn Twp. and many nieces and nephews.  Family and friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Tuesday in the John M. Edward “Doc” Josephic

Edward “Doc” Josephic age 89 of Trafford passed away on Good Friday, April 18 2014 in the Nugent Convalescent Home in Hermitage.  Doc was born on June 1, 1924 in Trafford the son of the late John and Sophie (Turchan) Josephic. Doc was retired from Westinghouse Electric and was a member of the St. Regis Church both in Trafford.  Doc was preceded in death by his wife Estelle A. Josephic in 1997; two brothers John and Mike Josephic and two sisters Genevieve Wrobel and Sophie Mares. Doc is survived by his son Kenneth E. Josephic (Deborah) of Jamestown; grandchildren Kyle, Kraig and Kourtney; great-grandchildren Joshua and Kellen and his brothers Pat of Trafford and David of Cincinnati OH.   Family and friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in the John M.
